Are you looking for someone to help manage your brand promotions and appearances? If so, you may be looking into hiring an Influencer Manager for your growing brand. Once you’ve waded through the agencies and freelancers, you’ll find yourself in the interviewing process and might not know the right questions for your interviewees to make sure you hire a manager that gets the best deals for you and what you stand for. Here are some things to look for and ask about.

Are They Good at Mediating Situations?

Your Influencer Manager will be in constant communication with you and the brands you are partnering with. When negotiating basic deal terms, unfortunately, things aren’t always cut-and-dry. An efficient agency understands both sides and can effectively come to an arrangement that all can agree upon while keeping the conditions that are best for you.

Do They Have a Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public relations, or Similar Field?

Having extensive training and education in Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations is never a bad thing when it comes to hiring someone in this profession. Most well-established agencies will have Influencer Managers available with the above credentials, but if you are looking to hire a freelancer, it is important to look for someone with extensive experience, campaign metrics they can share, and preferably a degree.

Ask for Examples and Check Reviews

It’s easy to become distracted by a smooth talker. They may be able to talk-the-talk and schmooze those they meet, but do they have other top influencers for clients, and what campaigns have they negotiated for them? Asking for examples of clients, contract conditions, previous campaigns, and reviews from clients is completely normal and helps you to know if a candidate aligns with your influencer growth goals. A good influencer management agency should have a roster of creators/influencers they have worked with, that you can reach out to.

How Much Involvement Do You Get in the Process?

Your influencer manager should be as transparent as possible so that you know what to expect. Are they flexible and do you have a say in what brands you promote and represent? What is the process that they use to secure campaigns for you? While some influencers prefer to be hands-on, others prefer to have the agency take care of everything. Make sure that your influencer manager’s work style matches yours and that they understand who you do and do not want to represent.

How Do They Stay Up-to-Date?

Following trends and staying up-to-date on the latest technology can be a full-time job on its own. Asking influencer management agencies how they stay ahead of the game will ensure that you are never left behind and that your followers look to you for trendsetting content. They should also know the importance of staying on top of your competition and other influencers outside of your industry.
